We selected active hydrogen producers from microorganisms. We identified that binary microbial complex, which consists of aerobic and anaerobic spore-forming microorganisms, provides optimal conditions for starch digestion with maximum hydrogen output. On the first stage aerobic Bacillus species consumed oxygen, emitted reduced exometabolites and decreased RedOx potential. After reaching anaerobic conditions in cultivator Clostridium species hydrolyzed starch with hydrogen and carbonic acid formation. It was identified that mass transfer impacts molecular hydrogen synthesis. We defined the technological characteristics of microbial H2 synthesis process, and we thus determined the balance of hydrogen formation process in potato biopolymer destruction (from 1g of potato dry weight 32,4ml of hydrogen is formed).
